Oasis-Class Cruise Ships: Everything You Need to Know

Snag a Casita EarlyOne of the popular spots on the ship are the casitas on the pool deck. These small covered areas offer a couple of loungers, a charging port, and some shade on sunny days at sea. But when you’re ready for something to do, there’s no end to your options.

Differences in Oasis Class Ships

In addition to a wide range of restaurants, bars and showrooms, the five ships in the class feature some of the most unusual new attractions you'll find at sea. This includes bumper car pavilions (yes, somehow they found room for these) and skydiving simulators. Indeed, when you hear people talking about the wow factor of Royal Caribbean's "floating megaresorts," it's likely they're referring to the six ships in these two sets of vessels. This includes the just-unveiled Icon of the Seas — the world's biggest cruise ship. The line's Royal Suite Class comprises three categories of suites — Star, Sky and Sea. All come with VIP perks such as a dedicated lounge area for suite guests, complimentary drinks and dining, personal concierge services via a Royal Genie, reserved pool deck seating and other amenities.

Royal Caribbean ordered its sixth Oasis Class ship in 2019, and then with three Icon Class ships on order (and maybe a new class of ship coming too), it seemed like the Oasis Class was done. During our trip aboard Oasis the casitas were available on a first-come, first-served and filled up quickly. We’ve seen other ships where there is a reservation system and a charge attached.

Differences between the Oasis class cruise ships

Inside the vessels, as on Icon of the Seas, you'll find a seemingly endless number of lounges, bars, restaurants and shops, as well as large casinos, spas and showrooms. Like Icon of the Seas, each ship has an indoor ice skating rink. If you can't live without those sorts of features on a cruise ship, the Radiance class probably isn't for you. Note that only Wonder of the Seas currently has an actual Suite Neighborhood, which features Coastal Kitchen and a private sundeck. If you're sailing with the line for the first time, it's important to understand that not all of Royal Caribbean's signature attractions and venues are present on all its ships. For instance, while every Royal Caribbean vessel now has one of the line's iconic climbing walls (some have two), only the 19 ships of the line's big-ship classes have a FlowRider surfing simulator.

While there are some people who aren’t fans of the size of the Oasis-class ships, our view is the complete opposite. For instance, two of our favorite spots on the ship were the Solarium and Central Park. The Solarium offers plenty of space and feels a world away from the rest of the ship. It’s nice to be able to relax quietly without tons of music or huge crowds.

Not sure you want to sail on a megaship with 6,000 people but still want a vessel with a good amount of features and activities? The good news for those of you worried about excessive crowds is that, as is the case with the Icon Class ships, the Oasis Class ships don't necessarily feel as crowded as they are. A lot of thought went into how passengers move between these neighborhoods, too. Quantum Class ships also feature unusual, multilevel entertainment spaces with floor-to-ceiling glass walls called Two70. The spaces are home to innovative shows that often feature aerial performers, singers and dancers who emerge from openings in the floor or the ceiling.

Oasis of the Seas itinerary program is based on 7-day Western and Eastern Caribbean cruises Fort Lauderdale FL. Feature port destinations include Cozumel Mexico, Nassau Bahamas, St Thomas USVI, St Maarten, Jamaica, Labadee (Royal Caribbean's Haiti private island resort). This unique "floating island" has a foliage-filled Central Park (with plants), 2-deck Loft Suites, 20 dining options. The 5600-passenger ship Oasis OTS is one of the largest cruise liners in the world. Oasis has been the most anticipated newbuild since Cunard's Queen Mary 2. Her innovations, such as the first-ever Boardwalk and Central Park at sea, are already legendary.

Oasis Class vs. Freedom Class

Younger cruisers will have a blast at the Splashaway Bay water park complete with slides, fountains, sprinklers and water cannons. Additionally, the three-bedroom Ultimate Family Suite can accommodate up to 10 guests and features a slide from the upper level to the lower one. It has a private cinema and karaoke station, a balcony with a ping pong table and a private hot tub. The two-bedroom AquaTheater Suites allow guests to watch AquaTheater productions from their personal balconies. Ship's Royal Amplified drydock refurb is scheduled for 2019 (September 22 - November 23) and budgeted USD 165 million (EUR 150M). By this 63-day long drydocking project (at Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz Spain) many new venues will be added, including some fleet-firsts.

As you can see, many of the older bar and lounge spaces have received upgrades. You’ll find, once you’re onboard, that many have just received new branding and names, and remain in the same spot. Most will feature one or two main dining rooms, a buffet, and specialty restaurants that provide a variety of cuisines, from Italian to American steakhouse to Japanese.

Everything you need to know about Royal Caribbean's Oasis class cruise ships, with comparisons and onboard features. The Oasis Class is an extremely popular choice for families, as the ships can cater to guests of all ages. Kids will have an abundance of activities onboard, from waterslides to rock climbing and the zipline.

The infinite balcony technology, which Royal Caribbean debuted on Icon of the Seas, allows guests to lower a large window at the touch of a button to let fresh air into their room. Utopia of the Seas will feature 2,830 cabins and suites, with more than 20 types of accommodations to suit every budget and group size. They include inside (windowless) cabins, ocean-view cabins and balcony cabins. Cruisers can choose from varied suite options, including the new posh Solarium Suites, exclusively on Utopia of the Seas. Entertainment venues like the casino and comedy club will be in the aptly named Entertainment Place, and the vessel will also feature the exclusive Suite Neighborhood for suite passengers. Royal Caribbean hopes to draw a new crowd of never-cruised-before travelers by focusing on short three- and four-night itineraries that allow folks to sample cruising without too much of a commitment.

Whether you fill your day with high-energy thrills or lots of laid-back lounging, eventually you’re going to work up an appetite. Fortunately, Perfect Day at CocoCay offers tons of delicious dining options to satisfy all your cravings. If you’re into adrenaline-amping experiences, you’ll find plenty of bucket list worthy thrills to conquer on Perfect Day at CocoCay — from white-knuckle waterslides to the largest wave pool in the Caribbean. When the options are this good, there’s no such thing as too many. That’s why we’ve added even more possibilities to our seemingly endless selection of best restaurants — so you can take that family dinner or date night to the next level. Now you can grab crazy good Mexican fare at El Loco Fresh® or game-day favorites at Playmakers℠ Sports Bar & Arcade.

That’s why if you’re able, try to stand one deck up against the railing in front of the rock climbing wall. From this raised vantage point you can see the pool stage perfectly. We found ourselves enjoying breakfast in the park each morning from the small café located there. Moving forward there is a Splashaway Bay for kids, along with three different pools, and multiple waterslides.

Utopia of the Seas will provide a dizzying array of dining venues, drink options and activities for Royal Caribbean cruisers. From brand-new experiences to evolving fan favorites from previous vessels, the ship offers both seasoned cruisers and new-to-cruising travelers plenty of ways to fill a long "Ultimate Weekend." Ultimate Abyss is a 10-deck high waterslide (deck 16 entry, down to deck 6 exit /AquaTheater pool).
